The "Undervoltage" alarm is commonly caused by a bad air filter (bad air filters would need to be replaced), or insufficient fuel pressure. To have the fuel pressure appropriately verified, we would recommend contacting your local gas company. If all of these recommended checks can be confirmed, and issues persist, we would then recommend contacting an independent authorized service provider in your local are for diagnostic work. Once an applicable remedy has been provided, you can put the unit into the OFF position and press ENTER to clear the existing alarm. To locate an independent authorized service provider closest to you, please use your postal code for searching purposes via the following link: http://www.generac.com/dealer-locat... . If you have any other comments, questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at 888-GENERAC (436-3722). We hope you find this information to be helpful.

The oil appearing milky would most likely be from condensation, mainly from changing climates. The best way to avoid water getting into the oil is to check the dipstick often and at the first sign of any foaming or milky color to the oil start and run the engine for a while to flash off the moisture. If the oil continues to look “light brown”, change it after running the engine long enough to get it good and hot before draining. Using synthetic motor oil should also give the moving parts of your engine better lubrication and keep condensation in the crankcase to a minimum. Additionally, please note that we would recommend contacting an independent authorized service provider in your local area for diagnostic work, should issues persist, or if you believe that something is wrong with your personal generator. Per the NFPA 37, 8-22kw air-cooled generators feature the following minimum clearance requirements: The unit should be placed 5 feet from any combustible surface or structure; the unit should be placed 5 feet from any wall opening (i.e. door, window, etc.); the front of the unit, along with the two ventilating sides should be placed 3 feet from any surface or structure including trees, bushes, or shrubs. The back of the unit can be placed as close as 18” from any surface or structure. This is due to the fact that our enclosures are complaint with Clause (2) of Section 4.1.4 of NFPA 37. Also, please note that these recommended clearance requirements are superseded by local codes. We would recommend working with your local inspector and an independent authorized dealer to ensure that your unit is installed at a proper distance. Also, this information is provided in Section 3 of your unit’s installation guidelines, entitled “Site Selection and Preparation”. To locate your documentation online, please use your product’s model or serial number for searching purposes via the following link: http://www.generac.com/service-supp... . To locate an independent authorized dealer in your area, use your postal code for searching purposes here: http://www.generac.com/dealer-locat... . Question

Generator runs in auto mode even if there is power at the house

The Generator (20kw Model - 0062440) - came on at 5:30 am but we still had power to the house. I cycled the big auto switch on the house to off then on... generator kept running. Stopped the Generator manually, reset the side breakers on the Generator itself, then put into auto,,, still detected that it needs to be running (no power at the house) but we do still have power, never lost it it seems. Problem with the Generator or Transfer switch? I called the power company at first thinking it was a localized outage, but they called right back (while it was still running) and said they saw power to the Meter. Installed in 2013. I read in 14KW forum that a bad fuse may make the generator think it is detecting a power loss? What can I check on my own? Thanks

We would recommend having an independent authorized service provider in your local area check to see if the N1 or N2 wiring has come loose between your generator and automatic transfer switch. Otherwise, either one of the N1 or N2 fuses may have blown, as these are the two wires that monitor utility power. Unfortunately, we do not provide gas line recommendations, as the feed provided to each home can vary from one installation to the next. To ensure that your unit is provided the appropriate amount of pressure for the optimal operation of your personal system, we would recommend working directly with your local fuel line provider. If you have any questions pertaining to a product's specifications, features or operational capabilities, however, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at 888-GENERAC (436-3722) with the serial number of the product in question.

Question

how to clear alarms on an older model 20kw standby generator

When I put my generator in manual it starts up perfectly. It will run for about 10 seconds and trips. One LED light comes on which signifies two different alarms. They are: low coolant level and high temp alarm. I put coolant in it and ran it three more times in manual. It still trips and throws the same alarm. How do I clear the alarm so that it runs right again. My home is ten years old so im assuming the generator is around the same age.

Generac’s 20kw Guardian Series automatic standby generator, model number 6244, requires the use of a group 26R, 12 volt, 525 cca (minimum) battery for optimal operation. We would not recommend attempting to utilize an alternative battery, as doing so will immediately void the product's warranty.

To turn the generator off while the unit is running in AUTO and online, turn the main utility disconnect OFF. Next, turn the main line circuit breaker on the generator to the OFF (OPEN) position. Lastly, turn the generator OFF by putting the control panel into the OFF position. To review shutdown information and to obtain information regarding restarting your unit after maintenance has been provided, we would recommend referring to the Operation section of your unit's owner's manual. The exercise timer on Generac's 20kw automatic standby generator, model number 6244, will start the unit once every seven days, on the day of the week and at the time of day specified. During this exercise period, the unit runs for approximately 12 minutes and then shuts down. For model number 6244, the weekly setting and 12-minute run time cannot be adjusted. If you are looking to change the time at which the unit will run each week, we would recommend using the unit's control panel to scroll until EDIT is flashing under the unit's SUB MENUS screen and pressing ENTER. On the next screen, scroll until EXERCISE TIME is blinking, press ENTER, and use the unit's arrows to set the unit for your desired exercise time. If you have any other product-related comments, questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at 888-GENERAC (436-3722).
