You can use a 300 amp service entrance installed before both panels. Or use the 2 150 amp switches to match panels before each individual panel ether way will work . Generac offers both. Get a bid to install both ways to see what is more economical .

The automatic transfer switch that should be utilized in conjunction with your automatic standby generator depends upon your home’s configuration, main panel, and back-up power needs. In order to properly determine the specific transfer switch model most applicable for your personal set up and emergency power needs, we would recommend working with an independent authorized dealer in your local area. Question

20kw NG pipe thru-put / distance from NG source

I want to put a Generac 20kw unit 70' from the NG utility source. I have a 1.25 or 1.50 inch supply line and the city NG flow is 275 CFH. I also have a gas range, hot water heater and furnaces. Will I have enough THRU-PUT for the 20kw unit at 70' (feet) ? If not, is there a smaller unit that would work? Thank you.

The most economical way would be to install a higher psi primary regulator . And then 2 individual secondary ; one for house and one for generator. Please refer to professional gas plumber to see if your meter has proper office to handle your needs.

While the unit can in fact be removed for transportation, any damage due to uninstallation and/reinstallation would not be covered. Furthermore, the generator’s warranty coverage is applied only to the original installation site. Once removed from that original installation site, the unit’s warranty will be voided. Unfortunately, we as the unit’s manufacturer are unable to size the necessary gas line for your generator. In order to determine the appropriate line size, and to verify that it will meet your local codes, we would recommend working with your local gas company, to ensure that the unit is appropriately configured; an improper fuel line sizing will likely render the unit inoperable. When sizing the gas line, please note that it should be sized for use at full load. Generac’s 20kw Guardian Series automatic standby generator, model number 6244, will require 308,000 btu/hr at full load, and a water column of 3.5-7”. If you require any specifications or information particular to a certain unit, please either use the unit’s model or serial number via the following link: http://www.generac.com/service-supp..., or contact us directly at 888-GENERAC (436-3722).

As detailed in your unit’s owner’s manual, the green “Ready” light should be on when utility power is present and the Control Panel button is in the AUTO position; this light will also indicate when the generator is operating. The Yellow “Maintenance” light will light-up as a reminder to provide maintenance to the generator; this alarm can also be on at the same time as the red or green LEDs. Please note that a yellow light, when paired with a green light, will not render the unit inoperable, however, it may indicate a condition that if not attended to, could eventually disable the unit from running properly. If you are uncomfortable with providing maintenance to your unit, and would like to locate an independent authorized dealer in your local area for maintenance, please use your postal code for searching purposes here: http://www.generac.com/dealer-locat.... Generac’s 20kw Guardian Series automatic standby generator is rated for a maximum power output of 20,000 watts when running on a liquid propane fuel source, and 18,000 watts on a natural gas fuel source. Maximum power decreases about 3.5% for each 1,000 feet above sea level and will also decrease about 1% for each 6°C (10°F) above 16°C (60°F) ambient temperature. Generac’s automatic standby generators and associated transfer switches are typically recommended to be installed as close to the fuel source and incoming utility meter as possible. The Smart Switch included with the 20kw Guardian Series automatic standby generator, model number 6244, can be installed outdoors; it features a NEMA 3R enclosure, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations. Your fuel line installer and certified electrician will be able to appropriately size the fuel line and wiring for installation to ensure there are no loss in fuel pressure or voltage drop due to the distances. The unit can also be installed as far away as necessary, provided that the proper wire gauge and fuel pipe size is utilized. Depending on your existing set up and backup power needs, the installing electrician will be able to determine the best location for the transfer switch. Further information on proper installation can be found in the installation guidelines provided with the unit. We recommend discussing the installation with your electrician or installer, as state and local codes may vary, and will supersede manufacturer recommendations for installation. To locate an independent authorized dealer for installation assistance, please use your postal code for searching purposes via the following link: http://www.generac.com/dealer-locat.... Question

Use of AC contacts

Can my 6244 be installed without connecting the 24v low voltage thermostat wires for my air conditioner? I have only one AC and it would be difficult to get the 24v bell wire out to the generator. If I don't place anything on that load management module won't the AC simply come on when the electricity is restored by the generator. I realize that one losses the load management feature this way but as long as too great a demand is not being put on the generator all the appliance which are on (including AC thermostat calling for cooling) should operate shouldn't they?

We as the unit’s manufacturer would not recommend attaching the base of our Guardian Series standby generators to cinder blocks, as cinder blocks, pavers, or bricks are unable to carry or transfer the weight and vibration of the generator appropriately.
